Open Letter

Dear Anonymous,

George Bush has wiretapped less than 300 people without their knowledge and consent. This has led to a few dozen arrests. Those arrested still got a trial, and I'd wager that some were let free because there was no confession and insufficient evidence.

More to the point, what instead would you have us do? Rely on some foreign power or the bunch of crackpots in the supreme court to handle this? Let these guys know that we're tapping them before we listen?

Look, in the kind of war we're fighting, by the time we're done with formalities half of California will be underwater, New York will be on fire and the Pentagon is going to be a memory. We simply cannot afford to give these guys the benefit of the doubt the way we would an organized, uniformed country fighting with the same rules of war.

The era of wartime honor is dead. Americans still stick to their guns as much as they can, because we're good people. We don't just kill indiscriminately, we don't hate an entire group of people just because they look or sound like our enemies, and we are powerful enough that we can afford to fight without bringing to bear our full, unrestrained strength. However, if we cripple the only effective lines of defense we have against the form of attack our enemies use, we'll be hit again and again.

People can play their phony blame games and point fingers at the president, his cabinet, whatever. They can say 9/11 was Bush's fault all they want. It's mere words. It would not change the actual reasons 9/11 happened or who was responsible. We got hit once, and we can get hit again. A bunch of people hopping up and down, blaming the president when it happens will be little consolation to the families of those who will die in that next attack, should we allow it to happen.

But the blame will fall squarely on the shoulders of those who have crippled a president who has done nothing worse than any of his predecessors have done.

From the 60s onward, some Americans have this dumbassed perception that winning a war should be free of sacrifices and compromises. But you know what? If we want to avoid death on a massive scale and achieve our great objectives, then we will have to sacrifice for it. We'll have to do things we don't want to do. We'll have to break our own rules from time to time. We'll have to do things we're not proud of sometimes.

But we'll win. That is what is important in war. This is not a Disney movie. We are not playing football. Those who play their hardest and lose anyway do not walk home with their heads high. They bow down and have their heads cut off. These are the stakes. So quit whining and pipe down, stand up for your country and stand tall, or stand up with the enemies of your country and be branded its enemy in turn.

But you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Wow I got a letter thats most enjoyable. I guess your right on what you said but the fact is i dont see him spying on christians. Many of them commit terrorist acts on innocent people in the name of God. If hes going to protect us then do it all the way dont narrow it to just muslims then.

Yeah...

I'm pretty sure I don't even have to answer this one, but let's go for it.

Fatalities from acts of Christian terrorism in the US in the last 50 years: less than 10.

Fatalities from acts of Muslim terrorism in the US in the last fifty years: 3000+

Number of hostile anti-American nations primarily run by Christian theocracies: 0

Number of hostile anti-American nations primarily run by Islamic theocracies: over half a dozen

Nationality of over 95% of foreign terrorists in the last 50 years: Arab

Religion of over 95% of foreign terrorists in the last 50 years: Muslim

I mean, honestly, it's not hard to break down why we're focusing on Muslims here. At all.

"Many of them [Christians] commit terrorist acts on innocent people in the name of God."

I haven't heard of a lot of Christians shouting, "God is great!" and then ripping the entrails out of people. "Allah ahkba" (sp?) is, however, commonly the last thing a soldier hears when there is a shooting death in Iraq (not so common anymore).

The only thing Christians have bombed or shot is abortion clinics and, while this is tragic and hypocritical, the loss of life has been minimal. Though these are monstrous, misguided people who ought to be locked up (or killed, if they've knowingly taken an innocent life) they have not caused devastation on a scale near that of islamic terrorists who use women as human shields, take children hostage and use car bombs to wipe out dozens at a time.

The threat from Christians is extremely small. The threat from Muslims is much larger. However, this isn't even the point.

The point is, the USA forces found the numbers of the people that they are wiretapping on Al Quaeda call lists. They did not then say, "Let's just bug the Muslims!" They tapped those numbers most likely to result in terrorism. And I don't care what color your skin is or what your religion is. If you're on Osama Bin Laden's rolodex, I hope to God the white house is listening in on your phone conversations, for the good of us all.

And if some Arab citizens are wiretapped unfairly? If they are inconvenienced by an arrest and release, or even dragnetted unfairly?

It's better than being killed in a terrorist bombing. It's not pretty, but it's true.

Oh yea, and don't forget why our police force does profile. Becausic it is affective. The problem lies in that many people do not understand what profiling is. Some people (bleading heart liberals) think that profiling is going after one race after any crime. WRONG profiling is when their is a crime and a majority of similar crimes were commited by a certian group (ethnic, race) then the police will spend more time and asists on that group, with hope that the percentages will play out in their favor. They still look at other group. But why bother questioning 87 year old grandmothers about a double homiside? To end this rant I say this... Profiling works, a majority of terrorists around the world are of Arab decident THEN FOCUS YOUR LIMITED REASORCES ON THEM!! If their are innisant then their innisant. We don't target terrorists becausic their Arab, we target terrorists becausic their terrorists.

Becides, does anybody remember IRA?
I didn't think so.

Money:

Learn to spell and punctuate. You can have the best idea in the world, and if you can't present it properly nobody will ever listen to it.

I know that my spelling sucks. It is just another one of my personal flaws, or rather intellectial flaw. It is hard to believe anybody's work which has spelling errors, but it should be effective if only it puts an idia in somebody's head. (I know that that sentince is misserable.) My point is that we should not atack each other in the name of professionalism for I have bullets also. Rather, let us rejoice in the fact that we don't even need to win this war as the left looks as if it is taking a political dive (H. Clinton).
Damn it, I do need an editer.
